
McKaia Dykema is an Associate at Kennedy & Graven and practices in the area of municipal law. Her background working for Minnesota cities and representing local government interests at the national level has made her passionate about her service to municipal clients.
Prior to joining Kennedy & Graven, McKaia worked as the Manager of Legal Advocacy and Legislative Research for the National League of Cities. During law school, she clerked with Campbell-Knutson and externed with the City of Golden Valley, with work primarily focused on supporting the Just Deeds project. Before law school, McKaia worked for the City of Brooklyn Park as the Strategic Management Coordinator and the City of Minnetonka as the Assistant to the City Manager. She graduated with her B.S. in Political Science with a minor in Community Development, magna cum laude, from North Dakota State University and her J.D. from Mitchell Hamline School of Law, summa cum laude, where she also served as a Student Bar Association representative. She was honored to receive the 2023 International Municipal Lawyers Association Charles Thompson Jr. Local Government Law scholarship while in school.
Outside of the office, McKaia enjoys spending time with her husband and young son, and their dog, Roman. They are big fans of visiting the U.S. National Parks and enjoy being outdoors as much as possible.
